Support Nigerian Fashion. The Toju Foyeh Edition

Hey guys,

This is my first official BuyNigerian post and the 1st image is the official image for it. Check out my BuyNigerian logo at the bottom left, whatchu think? 🙂 The rest of the photos are as usual, for your viewing pleasure 😉

This piece is by upcoming designer Toju Foyeh and its fabulous. I absolutely adore the flirty flounce detail flaring out at the top. Yes! Ah loves me some drama in my cocktail dresses and this one’ll definitely turn some heads huh! It’s sooo very ‘Dynasty’! (What’s Dynasty you say? only the most awesome, epic, ridiculously fabulous and fashion forward soap opera ever!!! … look it up)

So I’m gonna go ahead and say that this dress is definitely not for the faint hearted, you’ve gotta have some cahunas *said in italian mob voice with hand gesture* to pull this one off! It’s a piece from her Rebirth ‘L’or’ gold-themed collection, inspired by ‘the golden woman’ and to quote the designer herself “the golden woman is Toni Tones” *big grin* err Ok …. well… maybe her actual words were ” sexy, bold and elegant”…. BUT!!! it was totally obvious she meant to say ‘Toni Tones’ it was in her tone, you could tell…. you could just…. tell! *awkward silence*….. Err moving on swiftly…..It’s called the Dee Dress in dedication to her friend …. Well her friend ‘Dee’ obviously! She dedicated each of her pieces to her closest friends, how cool is that??? I for one, am currently re-evaluating my friendships… I mean, there’s got to be a particular reason why nothing’s ever been dedicated to me! Perhaps I just need to move some friends around …. you know …. as see what happens, cause obviously, they’re not working out too well are they?

Toju Foyeh is very quickly becoming one of my Nigerian favs, I’ve loved every single one of her pieces that I’ve seen ….. she just…. gets me…. *sigh*

If anyone caught Tiwa Savage at the MAMA’s and SMVA’s, you’d have seen her looking uber fab in her Toju Foyeh pieces, she caught my eye, that’s for sure. While we’re on it …. I lurvvve Tiwa Savage. ‘Kele kele love’ is my everyday shower song, yes! I sing and dance in the shower *hangs head in shame*. She’s on the cover of WoW magazine’s latest issue, in another Toju Foyeh piece. I put the pic up in my previous post actually, check on it.

It’s been a long time…..I shouldn’t have left you {left you without a dope beat to step to}

Hey guys,

It’s been way too long. Did you miss me???

Firstly, allow me to apologise sincerely for the long hiatus, moving to Nigeria was a huge adjustment and work leaves no time for anything else.

But I’m back, bigger, better and here to stay. The blog has a new outlook and is now devoted to promoting African fashion. YUP!

It’s a great time to be part of fashion in Africa, especially in Nigeria. The Nigerian fashion industry has grown consistently and is now making headway in the global arena. The world has finally begun to recognise the amazing talent we’ve got on our shores.

We are now recieving international recognition with personalities such as Michelle Obama wearing Nigerian designs,

many thanks to designer Duro Olowu. How awesome is that? Does it really get better than the 1st lady of America wearing Nigerian designs? We also have artists such as Kelis

and Dawn of ‘dirty money’ wearing forefront designer ‘Jewel by Lisa’. Kendall Kardashian

and Solange Knowles

look fabulous in JBL in these fashion editorials, thanks to celebrity stylist of nigerian descent Ugo Mozie. Gwen Stefani used African prints for her latest collection.

Even my (yes my) Rihanna has caught the bug 

and she looks ecstatic to be wearing her African inspired blazer.

Nigerian celebrities are also repping Nigeria these days, honestly with the likes of Deola Sagoe and Tiffany Amber in the land, there really is no reason for them to go elsewhere.

Our very own Nneka whose fashion style is usually best described as simple, bohemian chic, traded in her t-shirt and sandals for stilettos and this sexy Deola Sagoe piece, and doesn’t she look stunning in it?

{I don’t think she needed that necklace}.

It’s not just Nigerians making waves, designers from all over Africa are being ackonwledged and shinning brightly if I might add, here is Kourtney Kardashian wearing a piece by south Africa’s Gert Johan Coetzee

If you can’t tell already, I am extremely proud of all the designers who are revolutionising African fashion. God bless them all as they continue to serve as inspirations to us all, may they keep making us proud.

I am so inspired by whats going on in fashion in the motherland right now, that I lauched my very own BuyNigerian campaign.

The BN campaign was instigated by fashion frontrunners ‘Stylehousefiles’ in a bid to encourage Nigerians to support the industry, support their own. Now I’ve decided to take the initiative and run with it, how could I not? It definitely got me fired up and I hope to encourage everyone to BuyNigerian. After that, comes my BuyAfrican campaign. To not support the fashion industry right now, is almost a crime in my eyes, everywhere you turn there Is amazing fresh talent and there’s something for everyone, even the men. Apart from pioneers like Deola Sagoe, Tiffany Amber, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi, Jewel By Lisa etc, there is also an influx of fresh amazin talent such as, Obsidian
